Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed historian and expert on Armenian issues, Professor Seyot Sertcelik, to the president’s security and foreign affairs council.
Sertcelik was elected to parliament during the 2011 parliamentary elections in Turkey as part of the Justice and Development political party. He was appointed Erdogan’s head advisor in 2016.
He is one of the few Turkish historians who speak 10 languages, including Armenian and Russian.
Seyit Sertcelik worked at the Saint Petersburg State University’s literature division. He is the first Armenian-speaking Turkish historian to study Armenian issues in the archives and libraries of Moscow and St. Petersburg.
His book, “The Armenian Question According to Russian and Armenian Sources, 1678-1914,” as a Turkish official thesis was published by the Turkish parliament in Turkish and English in 2009. His second book about the Armenian question, “The Armenian Question According to Russian and Armenian Sources, 1915-1923” was published by the “Srt” publishing house.
