The gunshot fired toward the Yelpin village of Vayots Dzor from Nakhichevan was not specifically targeted; it had no purpose.
Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan spoke about this in a briefing with reporters.
“In any case, we did carry out the necessary measures. We got into contact with our neighbor to ensure that similar cases will never happen again,” Davit Tonoyan said.
As far as who he meant when he said ‘neighbor,’ Tonoyan responded, “Nakhichevan’s neighbors.”

The minister also explained that the neighbor was contacted through the operative connection that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had spoken about a while ago.
“The instance occurred, we checked everything out, and we warned them. The other side then takes measures. We don’t talk directly; contact is made through specific officials. This is a normal and positive process,” Davit Tonoyan said.
