Famous Armenian opera singer and People’s Artist of Armenia, Hasmik Papian, was supposed to sing at the concert in honor of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Yerevan State University. However, with her performance clothes in hand, she was unable to enter through the Opera’s main entrance.
“I approached the main entrance and the security guards told me that I was not allowed to enter. I would enter only if I showed them my invitation. I told them that I don’t have an invitation since I am going to be performing, but they told me again that I wasn’t allowed to enter. I even showed them my passport, but that didn’t do anything for them. I was forced to walk around the building and enter through the service entrance,” the opera star told Aravot Daily.
“Our youth needs to have some flexibility. They need to understand that I am not a terrorist who will cause danger. They need to be able to differentiate instead of following orders like in the Soviet Union. This was a painful and strange experience for me,” Hasmik Papian said.
