EU helps boost tourism in Armenia’s regions

February 11,2020 10:39

EU NEIGHBOURS. On 7 February, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, visited the first tourist information centre in Dilijan. The EU co-funded centre offers comprehensive information to guests visiting the area.

One of the key objectives of the centre is to attract tourists to Dilijan National Park and the nearby areas, and to become the main point for coordinating all tourism- and recreation-related events in the region. Some 6000 tourists have visited the centre since its opening in August 2018.

The next stop for Wiktorin was the Dilijan Arts and Crafts Centre, which was opened with the support of the EU. The centre launched small workshops in the community schools in the villages of Gosh, Haghartsin and Teghut, helping students to improve their creativity.

The Ambassador was excited to learn about the achievements of the two centres in attracting tourists and preserving the socio-cultural heritage of the local communities. Wiktorin highlighted that supporting the regional development of Armenia was a priority for the EU.
