“Hayk was everything to me: my happiness, my future,” Louise, the girlfriend of Hayk Sahakyan, who died during the war in Artsakh, told Aravot Daily. Hayk was only 20 years old. Despite the fact that he had only lived for two decades, Louise said that he had a lot of life experience.
“First, Hayk was a good person. He was kind, outgoing, caring, and attentive. But he was also difficult. It was hard to understand him. He had a unique and flexible mindset. There was nothing he didn’t know about. He had many goals and desires. We had already planned everything about our futures together. When he finished the army, we were supposed to open our small business and then get engaged,” Louise said about Hayk and his future plans. She said that they were in the same class in high school. In the beginning, they did not talk at all, but Hayk was interesting in Louise from the beginning, which was the foundation of their relationship. They were just friends in the beginning, which then turned into a beautiful love story, according to Louise. “Despite his age, Hayk was very mature and self-sufficient. He taught me everything. It seemed as though he was preparing me for the rest of my life. We only needed to look at each other to understand what the other was thinking. He always said that I was him in female form. We were very close. We told each other everything. We told each other our expectations, and we took each other’s opinions into consideration. I consider us to have been an ideal couple. We had the kind of love and relationship that every person dreams of. I was so happy.”
It was difficult for Louise when Hayk went to the army. “I barely fought away my tears every time we spoke. We spoke very often. I waited every day for him to finish on January 31st. But everything changed and I have to continue waiting without knowing for how long. On October 1st, I was at work when I received a call from the investigator. He asked me a few questions before telling me that Hayk had died. After recovering from my shock, I called Hayk’s brother and friend. We looked for Hayk all night. We wanted any information about him. We were convinced that it wasn’t true. It was only when I went to Hayk’s house in the morning when I realized it was true.”

His sister, Ani, cannot believe that Hayk is gone. “He would always call me and ask if there are any problems. He said that if there were, I should call one of his friends. Hayk died on October 1st, but only his brother and girlfriend knew about it. The last person he called was his girlfriend.”
Hayk’s family learned the news on October 2nd.
“I was sleeping. I woke up to hear my sister crying. When my mom came home from work crying, I understood that Hayk was gone…” his sister said. She also said that their pain will never go away. She misses him, but she will live for Hayk and all the springs he did not get to see.
Hayk’s friend said that one of Hayk’s friends in combat called on the night of September 30t and said that Hayk had died. “When we found out that his family members didn’t know, we tried to get ourselves together and wait. The next day, we found out that he spoke to his girlfriend and we were relieved. On the evening of October 1st, they called Hayk’s girlfriend and told her the news. I thought that it was false, but when I learned more about the conversation between Louise and the investigator, I was worried. We didn’t want to believe it. We thought that they got it wrong. We looked for him all night and tried to get ahold of him. We were unable to. We fell asleep with the hope that he will call his girlfriend in the morning. But that didn’t happen…” He said that after losing a friend and person like Hayk, they will only feel the need for him even more throughout their lives.
