Anna Gevorgyan: ‘To have normal relations with our neighbors does not mean that we tolerate their hostile treatment or that we won’t have an army’

The female candidates of the Armenian National Congress’ pre-election list met with youth on Wednesday. During the meeting, a question was asked about what mechanisms have been foreseen for spreading the idea of peace among society all these years later. In response, Anna Gevorgyan, who is in 6th place on the ANC list, said that the basis of this question is the reality that we understand very different things when we talk about peace.

For example, political forces did not spare any effort so that when we say peace, we mean stubbornness, surrender, defeat, and the renunciation of our national identity. “These are all artificial theories. The other is the theory that peace is an agenda imposed from outside- if a person talks about peace, then it is definitely part of an external agenda financed from outside, and people cannot wish for a peaceful future for their own children with their own will and intelligence. The biggest problem arising from all of this is self-deception because people talk about war and enmity with hostile neighbors, who when opening tourist agencies, they list the names of all the countries, but they say Antalya when they refer to Turkey. That way, they lie to customers, and they create the impression that they’ve lied to everyone. And they use this principle in all other sectors.”

Anna Gevorgyan announced that the ANC as a political force will expose all manifestations of this self-deception because it is impossible for any society to be a society of war, and people, both men and women, cannot rely on plans to die. “But our collective plans, as a rule, were about dying and heroism, and it was connected only with self-sacrifice on the battlefield. We did not have agendas of becoming heroes in peacetime.

The authorities that have adopted this fact have benefited from it because under the guise of the false pathos of self-deception, they have made programs based on their own personal interests, and they have not thought about the state and society at all by circulating such ideas.”

In Anna Gevorgyan’s opinion, “For years, in all these conversations, the voice of our peers was missing, people who are to play the role of mothers tomorrow, for whom politicians will determine how to participate in episodes of heroism. That voice was silenced and even today, unfortunately, even after so many casualties, they try to present what happened again with a pathos-covered veil and talk again about the fact that we should give birth to soldiers, and we should educate girls in a way that we should have soldiers. In other words, there is no way to have a political discussion outside of that speech.”
