Why do deputies get paychecks?

August 12,2021 11:01

The new National Assembly has not yet fulfilled its direct responsibilities. The deputies of the three factions do not speak about state issues, but about each other. Moreover, all three often do it with a vocabulary that does not suit deputies. The authorities consider it their duty not to leave unanswered any expression related to He Who Shall Not Be Named, and the opposition also does not leave any retort unanswered.

In general, in my opinion, there is no perfect symmetry in life. I am sure that there is a so-called “priority to concede”: in some cases the adult must concede to the young, the man to the woman, the strong to the weak, the government to the opposition.

In general, I will allow myself to present my own experience. Maybe the young deputies of the three factions will need it. For example, someone said that I am Kocharyan’s herald (I cannot imagine such a thing in my worst nightmare), probably because I see flaws in this government as well. How do you advise me to start justifying myself? Should I say, “Who are you to make such accusations against me?” Wouldn’t it be better if I ignored that insult? If a person writes such a thing under the influence of some emotions, then there is hope that sooner or later he will “freeze” and judge more soberly. If they intend to discredit what I have written with that qualification, then it’s fine. Let those who want to believe it.

What did I say? It is not necessary to respond to all the remarks and increase the “intensity” of the debate with each answer. After all, parliament is not just for propaganda, it is not for proving to its own constituencies that they’re “men” or that they are “bold.” The National Assembly is a legislative and oversight body. Moreover, by saying “control,” us law-abiding citizens mean that the parliament should control the executive power, which, of course, will cause confusion among the Civil Contract members. “Who are we to control the glorious and nationally-elected Prime Minister, who is the father of the people?”

In any case, purely theoretically, according to the Constitution and other laws, we, the taxpayers, pay the deputies for that, not to start “a few fights.” I understand that in reality, people voted for the Civil Contract, Armenia, and I Have Honor alliances with the expectation of a “few fights.” Those who hate the “former” elected Pashinyan, those who hate the current prime minister have elected the other two alliances, and the three factions are operating in accordance with the “mandates” given to them. But sometimes you can forget about the “mandate” and get down to business.
