The lawyer of the arrested captives claims that they did not have bullets, there was no retreat and now those captives have become scapegoats as they have returned from captivity and been arrested. Andranik Kocharyan, the chair of the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security, was indignant when a journalist asked this question and said that he would not answer the question as it contains dangers for the soldiers standing at the border today.
In response to another question about if the issue of the return of the captives be raised during the meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Brussels, he answered that we must move from the reality presented by Nikol Pashinyan.
“The issue of captives remains on our agenda. As long as there are captives held in Azerbaijan, the discussion of this issue should be a priority in any discussion,” Kocharyan said. In response to the question of how much the recent statements about the captives will hinder the question, Andranik Kocharyan answered, “Let’s remove the manipulative topic of the captives from our internal agenda and you will see how calmly, without causing tensions, the issue of captives will be solved.” He stressed that they are dealing with the issue of prisoners, and if they did not deal with it, there would be no return of prisoners, but it happens all the time.
Andranik Kocharyan countered the observation that Russia is involved in the issue and General Muradov’s name is constantly emphasized. “Seriously, Armenia is not involved, is it? Muradov is the official who is acting in accordance with the ceasefire requirements.” In response to the question about NA Speaker Alen Simonyan’s statement regarding how “there are no captives for us,” Andranik Kocharyan answered that it was edited, it is not a complete video, and it was made by a member of an unknown party outside, which precedes a special discussion on the issue.
