“Regarding the future of the country, I would refrain from saying that Khachatur Sukiasyan is the best expert,” says Davit Ananyan
“Economic policy makers should be asked how they see the country’s economic future. If they see that we have to build a country that produces and exports, at least that doctrine is the basis of the economic policy now, then opening the borders will kill our economy, manufacturers and producers. If they see the future of the economy with a certain impact on the country’s economy due to trade, yes, the borders can be opened, but then we must forget about having a national industry,” former chair of the State Revenue Committee Davit Ananyan told reporters in Freedom Square on April 18.
He said that geographically we are in such a position that the cost of goods and services is more expensive than the cost of goods of higher than average Turkish quality, therefore, those goods will be spread all over Armenia and our country will become just a market for Turkish goods. In that case, we will be dependent on Turkish goods and by imposing restrictions on certain goods, increasing customs duties, and we will become an area where Turkey will control the circulation of Turkish goods.

The journalists inquired whether Khachatur Sukiasyan had become one of the preachers of the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border and talking about peace, and in Ananyan’s opinion, what economic benefits Sukiasyan has that he is so interested. Davit Ananyan answered, “Khachatur Sukiasyan has been doing quite successful business in the country for decades, but due to the success of an individual’s economic activity, a person should refrain from making macroeconomic judgments and professional judgments about the future of the country. He understands economics to some extent, that’s why he was successful in business, but regarding the future of the country, I would refrain from saying that he is the best expert.”
