“European Union is committed to continue investing in local and regional development in Armenia’’: Ambassador Wiktorin

On May 13, within the framework of Europe Day 2022 celebrations, Ambassador Wiktorin met with members of the three Local Action Groups (LAGs) formed within the framework of LEAD4Shirak Project. The EUR 4.5 mln Project co-financed by the European Union and the Austrian Development Cooperation and implemented by the Austrian Development Agency is to promote inclusive and sustainable growth and improved livelihoods of the rural population in Shirak marz through piloting the EU LEADER methodology for local development. Ambassadors and representatives from EU member states joined the event.

The LAG members presented the work done so far and the upcoming call for proposals. It’s the objective to finance local initiatives aimed at the development of the 3 territories. The participants also had an opportunity to exchange views with the Ambassador Wiktorin on the investment of the EU in rural development in Armenia and the importance of local ownership and local partnerships to ensure the sustainability of local development initiatives.

‘’Proportional regional development and advancement of disadvantaged areas are among the priorities of CEPA. European Union is committed to continue investing in local and regional development in Armenia,’’ re-affirmed Ambassador Wiktorin.
