Two torrents of curses of varying strength

September 29,2022 10:33

The other day, the first president of Armenia gave a television interview, and his main message was that everything is lost, and the final loss of Artsakh should be officially recorded as soon as possible, otherwise it will be worse later. Is it possible to make sure that our compatriots living in Artsakh do not become emigrants and the land connection with Armenia is preserved?

Apart from Pashinyan, no one knows that. Ter-Petrossian doesn’t know either. As far as I can understand, the government’s position is roughly as follows: the issue of security of Armenians living in different countries, also in Azerbaijan (when Artsakh will be finally handed over to Azerbaijan) is not directly related to Armenia, let those Armenians negotiate with the authorities of the given state and get security guarantees. I can only imagine how much Azerbaijan is inclined to negotiate with the people of Artsakh. And I strongly doubt that anyone, including the co-chair countries of the Minsk Group, have the opportunity to force Aliyev to sit down for such negotiations.

Yesterday, the second Armenian president spoke at a press conference, and his approach compared to Ter-Petrossian’s position was more optimistic. According to him, we still have a chance to keep Artsakh or the rest of Artsakh as Armenian land. But that approach did not infect the society with optimism, and the problem is not so much Kocharyan’s arguments as his personality and ambitions.

It is clear that Ter-Petrossian’s interview, and then Kocharyan’s press conference, caused floods of curses and curses on social networks. But you will not compare them in their strength. In the second case, the flood was much more abundant. The reason is clear: Kocharyan, in fact, heads the current parliamentary opposition faction and has not given up his ambitions to return to power. As a result, a huge army of propagandists of the government in the form of fakes and real people is added to the mass of “sincere cursers.” That army, of course, will curse any figure who even crosses the mind to compete with Pashinyan today or in the future. But Robert Kocharyan is a particularly suitable target in that sense: he has committed many sins and caused the righteous anger of the citizens.

If Kocharyan wants his activities to be effective today, he should announce that he will never claim power again. And the deputies of the Armenia faction should give up their mandates. Something tells me this is not a realistic approach.
