Paraphrasing Sergey Dovlatov’s speech a little, I should mention that after the “Nikol-fans,” the “anti-Nikols” are the most unacceptable for me. What is the talk; Communist-anti-communist, liberal-anti-liberal, pro-Russian-anti-Russian, pro-Nicols-anti-Nicols; oppositions are false, counterproductive, they do not explain anything, and they do not create any new knowledge. It’s like hitting a pillow to relieve stress, which some psychologists recommend. Suppose you rested for ten minutes; all the same, the causes of stress will not disappear.
The deplorable results of Nikol Pashinyan’s five-year leadership are in front of all of us. By all of us, I mean people who are not visually impaired. But hundreds of thousands of citizens (Nikol-fans) believe our State is better than before 2018. Hundreds of thousands of citizens (the anti-Nicols) repeat like a mantra, “The only way out of this situation is a change of government.”
It is the trap of beating the pillow or false alternatives in social and political processes. The “Age of Peace” disasters will continue if we remain in this trap. We will have new territorial losses, Azerbaijanis will “return” to Armenia, and all this will end with our country being cut off by the enemy in the narrowest part, which will mean the end of our State.
It should be understood that the problem is more profound than the staying or coming to power of this or that political team. The processes that can lead to such a disastrous end are carried out in society. I propose doing a mental experiment with the following example to understand what happened to us. Let’s mentally go back a few decades and answer: why is Ararat depicted on the coat of arms of Soviet Armenia, why was the leading football team of Armenia called “Ararat,” why do the two columns of the Genocide Memorial have the appearance of Sis and Masis? If most of our citizens are ready to replace all that with Aragats, then no Pashinyan and no change of power will save us.
