Sergei Parajanov’s centennial was celebrated in Geneva under the auspices of the Permanent Mission of Armenia and UNESCO

On February 1, Sergei Parajanov’s centennial was celebrated at the renowned Le Grutli movie theatre in Geneva. The public enjoyed “The Colour of Pomegranates” film, one of the masterpieces of the great movie director.

Permanent Representative of Armenia H.E. Mr. Andranik Hovhannisyan delivered opening remarks. Among the speakers of the event were also Ms. Ana Luiza Massot Thompson – Flores, Director of the UNESCO office in Geneva, Mr. Alfio Di Guardo, Deputy Director of Les Cinemas du Grutli and Ms. Ani Gasparyan, the representative of the Muzika Association, who is also the main organizer of the events dedicated to the centennial of S. Parajanov. Three more movies of the great filmmaker will be presented to the public in the framework of the celebration.

Ms. Juliette Galstian, a mezzo soprano who is also the daughter of Vilen Galstian – one of the main actors of the movie – shared her memories and performed a song from the repertoire of Sayat Nova.

The screening of the movie took place in the fully packed hall. Present at the event were ambassadors accredited to Geneva, diplomats, members of the Swiss legislature, representatives of the Armenian community.

The Permanent Mission of Armenia organised a reception on this occasion, where the Armenian wine was served.

The event was co-organised by Muzika Association and Grutli Cinema and was convened under the high patronage of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia and the Office of UNESCO in Geneva.
