Will the dialogue stop today because of a pit bull’s muzzle?

August 16,2011 00:00

Yesterday the Armenian National Congress has presented quite the opposite of the scene presented by the RA police concerning the incident near Swan Lake on August 9

On the YouTube site of the RA police there are videos that confirm what said the RA Chief of Police Alik Sargsyan. So the red berets tell, “Being on duty, we were walking down Teryan Street to Tumanyan Street, we met a young man on the way who was walking with a dog, which was without a muzzle.” According to them, they admonished the young man and he accepted his fault, “We continued our duty on Teryan Street toward Saryan Street. We heard some voices behind us after a few steps, hey, berets, is it not enough for torturing people, you should be judged. We looked around to see who they were. We turned around, saw two young men who we had usually met during the rallies; they were activists. Knowing all that, we turned around again and continued our way. After that, they started over, hey, berets…”  Meanwhile yesterday press secretary of the ANC Arman Musinyan claimed at a press conference that the reality did not correspond to the police version that the reason for incident was admonishing the master of the dog without a muzzle and represented the following version of the events, “Two red berets were searching a citizen near Khnko-Aper library, Artak Karapetyan came up to them and offered to be a witness. Both sides were talking quite respectfully. However, when Tigran Arakelyan approached and greeted the police officers, one of the police officers said, man, I know this guy, these are Levon people, after which the argue started that ended in using brutal force against our two supporters.” The other 5 youngsters, approaching a little later, “Witnessed the following scene; Tigran Arakelyan was laid up with one of the berets holding his foot on Tigran Arakelyan’s head and raising his leg with one hand and two berets were beating him who was lying on the ground.”
During “02” program of the RA police an interview was shown with a doctor of the Central Station of the First Aid N. Nanushyan, during which she told, “The police called about the incident. We got there very quickly.” She also witnessed, “There were no serious injuries, and nobody was seriously injured. There was a young man whose blood pressure had gotten high.” Although the August 10 statement of the ANC read, “The police prevented medical assistance for the young people, even after recognizing the injuries by the ambulance doctor”, the doctor told, “Nobody prevented our work. All the guys were double-examined.”
As an original denial of the doctor’s claim that there had been no serious injuries, Arman Musinyan handed a photo to the journalists that we publish, “These are her clear notes that explicitly show that near the names of a few it is written “brain concussion”. I.e. the doctor had doubts that they had gotten a brain concussion. You know, in such cases it is necessary to hospitalize a person, because in the case of a brain concussion the person must be at least examined, X-ray must be done, in order to be able either to deny or in the case of confirmation, he should lie motionless.” Fortunately, probably the doubt of a concussion was denied the other day, since three persons mentioned in the above-mentioned note, Areg Gevorgyan, Sahak, Muradyan and Davit Kiramijyan were participating in the press conference. The signs of violence were obviously noticeable on both them and another participant of the conference Vahagn Gevorgyan.
At “Aravot’s” request, Mr. Musinyan referred to the videos made at the Kentron police department and put on the internet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMLP1aa-V4k&feature=player_embedded). Let us remind that the curses of the activists are heard on these videos and how, in response to the admonition made in that regard, “I am of your father’s age, don’t do that”, one of the youngsters said, “My father does not allow himself such things, you wouldn’t be so stupid, if you even were 6 years younger than I.” In response to our observation that what is shown on these videos corresponds to what the RA Chief of Police says, the ANC press secretary said, “All the curses were in response to the violence and similar curses (“continuing for hours”, added Areg Geborgyan – A. I.). If I had been them I would have done the same thing and there is nothing strange in it. First, one should ask police why only those parts where the guys were responding to the police actions have appeared on the net. Second, those videos themselves are an illegal proof, if the criminal case is based on them.” Arman Musinyan summarized, “Even in the cases examined after March 1 there was no such bunch of violations; it came down to physically abusing a counselor. This is just unprecedented. Taking all this into account and taking also into account the fact that basically the incident started after one of the police officers made the prominent remark, after which their treatment changed, this unambiguously assumes that the police actions were just a provocation, were a political persecution and our friends who are under arrest at this moment are political prisoners.”
In response to a question whether it is possible that this fact will have an impact on the dialogue and it will be stopped, Arman Musinyan said, “The existence of political prisoners, have continuously been our main precondition for three years that has prevented the dialogue. And in this case, certainly, it is the most serious barrier.” Reminding that the next meeting is on August 16, he stated, “There are 24 hours left yet. And depending on what will be the status of the guys before the next round of the dialogue starts, we will make the respective decision.” A member of the working group of the coalition Mher Shahgeldyan said to “A1+” in this regard, “We have reached an agreement with the ANC not to speak the language of time ultimatums. I do not accept today’s statement. We are for the objective examination being conducted and finding out what happened.”
