Davit Harutyunyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) executive body, made a statement today, in which he, talking about the fact of establishing a joint staff for public supervision with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), the Armenian National Congress (ANC), the Heritage Party and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) participating in the National Assembly election, noted, “The RPA put forward a comprehensive program of holding a good election much earlier and that program included
not only public supervision over the process, but also a wider range of issues.” Not challenging copyrights, Mr. Harutyunyan stresses, “In our opinion, the participating parties should first of all set rules of holding a proper election and civilized competition in the election. Rules that are followed voluntarily. Rules, following which will eventually result in changing the political atmosphere. Rules, the unreserved enforcement of which will allow to reach a condition, when the participants will congratulate each other for the results, regardless of the number of their votes,” and urges, “Let us all unite to conduct a good election and actually hold such an election.”
During the dialogue between the ANC and the ruling coalition that took place a few months ago, the coalition represented by Davit Harutyunyan, the head of the establishment’s delegation at the negotiations, spoke of joint mechanisms of ensuring a free and fair election, which was not made public. www.aravot.am inquired from Davit Harutyunyan whether the offer made today was also an offer not made public in the framework of the dialogue. “Yes, actually it is that offer,” said Mr. Harutyunyan. In response to our question whether he expected that political forces would respond to his offer, he said, “I hope they will respond.”
