Gurgen Yeghiazaryan has a fear that the government will dispose of Nairi Hunanyan in the near future
Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, a member of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP), stated during a conversation with www.aravot.am that Nairi Hunanyan’s life was currently under threat. It is not ruled out that Nairi will be neutralized in the correctional facility. As for what makes Mr. Yeghiazaryan fear that, he has gotten information from the “back room,” so to speak, that such an attempt has already been made. “The Yerevan Correctional Facility is on the first floor of the National Security Service (NSS). The National Security has a few cells, but the main cells are under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice. In the period from January 5 through January 13, 2008, they bring a few boxes of vodka to the Yerevan Correctional Facility at midnight, open the doors of the cell, and treat to the drink. Can you imagine at least three people were there for murder, including two serious killers. When a citizen is deprived of freedom, number 1 goal is to make sure that those involved in the case don’t communicate with each other and don’t mislead the preliminary investigation body, matching each other’s testimonies in advance. However, the government opens the doors, in order that all criminals, about 50 people, came out of the cells. Only one door separates them from the National Security building. They go up and down; they could easily take the building. The people here are condemned for murder, including those who were arrested for serious crimes and are capable of anything.” In response to our question whether the doors of all cells had been opened, Gurgen Yeghiazaryan said: “They didn’t open only one cell. My friend was there; he worked as a chief of police in the past. They left his door closed, fearing that he would realize what it was all about.” And according to Mr. Yeghiazaryan, it was all about “doing Nairi in” that day. “They take everyone back to their cells at dawn with curses and beating. They dismiss a few people, and it testifies to the fact that they themselves organized that. I saw that chief on March 2 when I was taken to a cell.” As for what the point in opening the cells and treating criminals to vodka exactly in January was, Mr.
Yeghiazaryan has his explanation: “The thing is that it was a run-up to an election, and these people didn’t know what the results of the election would be. And Nairi Hunanyan was in one of the cells. They wanted to open the door to hang Nairi Hunanyan. At the last moment, one of the responsible officers must have changed the key, because the criminals try to open the door and cannot. There must have been 1-2 guys among them who would hang, strangle Nairi Hunanyan, then they would say that they had disposed of that rogue as a result of general revengefulness. This is the nature of this government. They want to dispose of Nairi, lest he gives even a false testimony, because any testimony given by Nairi will be the end of certain people.” According to Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, Nairi Hunanyan doesn’t have mental problems. “In my opinion, he plays insane to live. He knows that he won’t live.” As for why Mr. Yeghiazaryan talked about all this only now, he explained that he feared that the same attempt will be made in the next few days; they would try to dispose of Nairi Hunanyan, since they sensed the danger of a change of power again. In response to our question whether he thought there would be a change of power then, he said: “Yes, but not through Raffi.”
