Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union is irreversible, and the European integration is impossible in the the foreseeable future. This thesis was put forward by the first president of Armenia Levon Ter –Petrosyan at the March 1 rally. Developing his idea, he said that Armenia should go to the Customs Union, only without the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan. Today, referring to these observations of Levon Ter -Petrosyan at the request of Aravot.am, Hans Horbach, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Tbilisi and Armenia, said that it is up to Armenia to decide on which direction for future development to choose. “But, our relationship will not get spoiled,” added the Ambassador. Mr. Ambassador, whose residence is in Tbilisi, is in Yerevan to take part in the “2014 Nuclear Security Summit Presentation /The Hague/: key ideas and new solutions” conference organized by the Analytical Center on Globalization and Regional Cooperation (ACGRC).

The world began practicing non-proliferation of nuclear weapon and safety issues since 2009, with U.S. President Barack Obama’s initiative. Until now, two global conferences on this issue were held: in Washington, and then in Seoul. The third is planned for March in the Hague. Among post-Soviet countries, such weapon existed in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, which in the future, based on corresponding documents, was moved to Russia. The purpose of the upcoming meeting to be held in the Hague, to prevent nuclear terrorism in all over the world, involving international organizations and states, Mr. Ambassador said that the conference, in particular, will discuss the issues on reducing the amount of nuclear material, improvement of the quality of available nuclear material, and the safety issues for regulation of its use. “As a transportation node, our country has to overcome multiple risks of nuclear material in transit. In this sense, we can bring our contribution to this cause,” said our interlocutor.

Leaders of about fifty countries, including U.S. President Barack Obama, will attend the Hague upcoming event. The conference will also be attended by the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan.

Ambassador Hans Horbach is in Armenia to understand and clarify what contribution Armenia may have in this case.
