“Today, Russia needs events that will draw the world’s attention from Ukraine and the actions which it does in Ukraine”, so responded the expert of the “Center for Political and international Studies” Ruben Mehrabyan, to Aravot.am question of whether Russia does not use Kessab as a tool for exercising its geopolitical purposes. Recall that with regard to Kessab, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov had called on the UN Security Council to discuss the situation occurred around Kessab and also talk about execution of Kessab Armenian by the armed troops. In response to Aravot.am question in this respect, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Yerevan State University, and turkologist Ruben Melkonyan said, “It is natural that Russia has its own interests and its interests are priorities and it would be naive to believe that they would be guided by the interests of Armenians. Note that a country like Russia raises the interests of a significant group of Armenians in the international agenda. This is also our task to make such steps to be able to benefit.”
Ruben Mehrabyan thinks that Armenians remain a Russia political tool in this game. The political scientist stated, “A tragedy occurred in Kessab. It is necessary to bring out the military subordination from there and rearrange the residents into their residence, and consider the area outside of the war zone. It’s not that Moscow does not believe in tears, moreover, people do not believe in Moscow tears, they are crocodile tears.” Returning to the Armenian diplomacy, Mr. Mehrabyan said, “The Armenian diplomacy does not have that much backbone to once again repeat Kessab mayor’s word that there are no victims there. And Russian Foreign Minister’s roars just should be hushed rather than joining a duet with him”.
There are opinions, it’s not only RF that uses the Armenian problems. For example, Ruben Melkonyan believes that using Armenian by the West is more fatal, and compares current statements of the West to the statements voiced by the West in 1915. In this respect, Ruben Mehrabyan said, “In all cases, if you are not a subject, naturally the object should be used. Therefore, I would use the object, which is the closest, and which has more of an impact. Everything comes from the fact that first of all we need to be an object, we first need to shake off the Russian humiliating yoke, which is currently wrapped around our heads.” With regard to the West’s “duty” statements, Mr. Mehrabyan said, “Yes, they are duty statements, we should not expect more in the case when you’re not a subject. The Kurds living in Syria have had much higher rationality and political expression than the Armenians. They established a self-defense with their own forces and did not become enemies with conflicting parties, keeping their territories away from military operations.” Mr. Mehrabyan rated the RA Foreign Affairs Ministry’s activities “unsatisfactory”, and noted, “We did not even provide participation in Syria’s conference. If we look at it by the school approach, the Foreign Affairs Ministry should be graded unsatisfactory and be dismissed from the school. We do not have the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have a misunderstanding of Foreign Affairs. The honorary MGIMO doctorate degree is not enough to avoid misunderstanding. Our foreign policy is even disgusting and it does not generate anything but compassion, not to speak about the tears.” Mr. Mehrabyan notices that the first step in resolving any conflict was the fact that Russia was kicked out from those territories.
Later, he noted, “There is no conflict, Russia’s presence becomes useless. In this respect, conclusions should be made in the South Caucasus, too. The conflict should be maintained, to add fuel into the conflict: blood, hatred, therefore Russia uses tools, and unfortunately, a segment of Armenians has voluntarily submitted an application for it.”
