The Armenian educational institution will be dismantled for building a Chinese school

A Chinese Language School will be opened in Yerevan, for which, the Chinese government has donated 27 million dollars. The agreement on the opening of the School was reached still in 2013 by the agreements signed between the governments of Armenia and China. Earlier, in 2010, an agreement was reached on the establishment of the school during the meeting of the presidents of Armenian and China.

We learned from the agenda of the Government February 5 session that a draft project was presented by the Ministry of Education and Science, which projects dismantling the Yerevan No. 103 high school named after H. Gyulikekhvyan, the educational block with about 5.1 thousands square meters located by the address Sarkavag 14 Street in the Kanaker-Zeytun community in Yerevan for building a new school in its place with the funds donated by Chinese Government. In the first stage of the project, Chinese will be studied by Russian-based textbooks. It is envisaged that in the future, the professors of the Confucius Institute located at the Linguistic University after Brussov will create Armenian-based Chinese textbooks in a short period of time. Many people expressed discontent about the reopening of foreign language schools. Some expressed concerns about the opening of a Chinese school.

Ultimately, what will it provide to our society? Will it upgrade our level? Will it contribute to the development? In the conversation with “Aravot”, sociologist Aharon Adibekyan said that the opening of such institutions, first of all, is a bridge between the two countries, in other words, Armenians will speak Chinese, Chinese students will come to study in Armenia as it was once. “Such institutions are bridges, which help to establish professional contacts between foreign countries, trade, economic and cultural groups. It would be good to have also Japanese and Indian schools because thus Armenians may develop and be in the international community, and mastering two-three languages is an honor in the international community. In our multi-millennia history, we always knew two or three language, and it was one of the prerequisites of our preservation and development,” said Aharon Adibekyan, adding that we should welcome the idea of opening a Chinese school and urge other countries and their embassies to Armenia open schools in our country, especially the countries where Armenians have a large diaspora.
