Traditional scenarios

July 16,2015 12:30

Since the youth currently inheriting the movement of “No to Plunder,” or rather not to “No to Plunder” but “anti-tariff” have begun demanding the president’s resignation, it can be said that everything seemed to be fallen into their places, with this “original” demand, they will keep our traditions of 23 years steadfast. Now, it is the right time to recall another traditional allegation. I am talking about “selling the Karabakh”, it is not been heard for a long time. About a year ago, in September last year, if you recall, the talks about “selling” was held in the direction that there will be a customs checkpoint between Armenia and Artsakh, thereby isolating our two countries from each other, Artsakh will appear in a desperate situation, and this can be considered a “selling of Karabakh”.

Since 1992, exactly the time when the opposition was demanding the president’s resignation, also “undeniable evidences” are brought that the president (Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Kocharyan, Sargsyan) either have already signed or will sign the day after tomorrow a document, by which Artsakh is actually handed over to Azerbaijan. Once, this misinformation hysteria had reached the point that the first president had to resign. After 1998, the talks about the “selling” are not stopped.

Now, new opportunities arise for touching upon this “eternal theme”. As expected, upon the completion of the European Games, Azerbaijan began new assaults on the borders of Artsakh and Armenia. One can most likely assume from Azerbaijani President’s and Foreign Minister’s and Defense Minister’s statements that the situation will be aggravated and these statements are a preparatory phase for new adventures. It has already become a pattern that parallel to the escalation of the situation, similarly, traditional statements are voiced by the OSCE Minsk Group American co-chair James Warlick, creating an illusion, allegedly, there are some agreements on return of “occupied territories”. Azerbaijan will continue its provocations until it gets a hit on the “nose”, and the American diplomat will continue “decrypting” the settlement plans during the next armed clashes.

But all of this has nothing to do with “selling”. You can sell what is yours or at least over what you have a complete control. None of Armenia’s presidents has this leverages. To obtain evidence, it suffices to travel to Artsakh and ask any person in any city or village, “Warlick says so and Mammadyarov says that. What is your opinion?” If you want to get to know the Artsakh people’s unique sense of humor, definitely ask this question.
