The Deputies are appealing to the UN

On October 26 in the National Assembly five parliamentary fractions – Republican Party of Armenia, Armenian Revolutionary Federation Party, Rule of Law Party, Armenian National Congress, Prosperous Armenia Party, signed a letter addressed to the development program of the UN/UNDP.

In the letter the representatives of the parliamentary fractions urge the UN to have a role in the Election Code related to the issue of video cameras installation envisaged by the agreement of the political forces.  It is anticipated that live broadcasting should be ensured from all the polling stations. Note that the EU had promised to provide two million Euros for this purpose.  The Armenian deputies think that the UN should also provide its support, and it should be mainly technical ”The main objective is that there should be public control over the legitimacy, and violations should be excluded – illegal voting, violence, manipulations with ballot papers, etc” after signing the letter said ANC fraction leader Levon Zuhrabyan while talking to the journalists: he also added that nobody would love to violate the Criminal Code live on the air.  In the words of PAP fraction leader Naira Zohrabyan, the UN as an institution that has the utmost trust from all the political forces, should implement the whole procedure of video recording so that it is not the issue of the authorities, opposition or any other political force in order to avoid any further speculations.
