How Zeynalyan saved 30 children from Azerbaijani blockade in Artsakh: Aram Sargsyan explains

September 15,2018 15:40

During the gathering on September 13th for the “Luys” alliance, one of the alliance’s top members, parliamentarian Aram Sargsyan briefly presented mayor candidate Artak Zeynalyan, who, as it is know, is a freedom fighter who lost his leg in the Artsakh war. Aram Sargsyan said that when the Ghazanchi village in Martakert, Artsakh was besieged, a decision was made by the Armenian forces to start an operation to save the 30 children trapped in the village. “The strength of the Armenian side was sufficient to bring the village out of the siege, therefore it had been decided that we “overwhelm” the siege so that the children can be brought out. That meant that we had to pass through Azerbaijani soldiers, get the children, and leave. Naturally, it was dangerous. If the children cried, that could have disrupted how we brought them out,” Aram Sargsyan explained.

Then he noted that Artak Zeynalyan took 30 pieces of chocolate so that the children wouldn’t cry and ordered his combat friends, “Tell whichever child who starts to cry that we’re going to give them chocolate.”

Aram Sargsyan stated that the operation to bring the children out of the village was successful. One of the little boys, however, didn’t make any noise when he got to safety.

“Doctor Ghukas Urikhanyan was called to see what had happened. When he approached the child’s bed and asked him in the Artsakh dialect “how are you,” the little boy replied, “I’m fine.” It became clear that the little boy didn’t understand what they were saying to him, and that’s why he wasn’t responding.” This story was written about in a book, according to Aram Sargsyan. The parliamentarian called upon the citizens of Yerevan to vote for Artak Zeynalyan on September 23rd.
