‘Other Dashnaks should have been arrested after Dro’s case’: Naira Zohrabyan

February 07,2019 17:37

During a committee session, head of the National Assembly Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs Naira Zohrabyan, when speaking about those sentenced to death, said, “Other Dashnaks needed to have been arrested during the Dro case, not Armenak Mnjoyan or Arsen Artsruni.”

Regarding the latest effort to grant clemency to other people sentenced to life and the controversy surrounding Mher Yenokyan, Zohrabyan said that unfortunately, the release of one person had a bad impact on several prisoners who truly regretted what they have done. Especially if there is also legal approval from their victims for their release.

There are also serious problems surrounding the killings in the army. She spoke of one example where a soldier was killed by an officer after disrespecting him, but the officer had been in jail for over 20 years now and had the right to clemency.

Zohrabyan said that prisoner Stepan Grigoryan is in a very bad moral psychological state, since he was convinced that he would’ve been released. Especially since he was not a participant in the murder, and he did not kill anyone.

Naira Zohrabyan added that she does not want this session to be moved to a political platform, but discussions will be held in the committee on all these topics.
