April 07,2020 18:34

The growth in the number of new coronavirus cases has decreased slightly. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about this during a Facebook live video, noting that 20 new cases of the virus were confirmed yesterday, which is 9 more than the day before. According to Pashinyan, 211 tests were administered, which is also fewer than the day before.

Pashinyan said that, for the first time yesterday, the number of people who recovered from the coronavirus was more than the number of new cases. “Twenty new cases were confirmed, but 25 people recovered.”

Nikol Pashinyan said that, according to their strategy, the Ministry of Health needs to do everything so that 1,000 tests can be administered daily by the end of the week, which will allow them to get a better picture of the situation. “I can say that the tension in our healthcare system has decreased somewhat because the system adapted to the new situation and there is less pressure.”

According to the Prime Minister, Armenia has 1,400 hospital beds intended for people with the coronavirus, but only half of that is being used currently. “It is good that we have seen a decrease in the number of severe cases. Two people who were in critical condition are now feeling better. The doctors were able to get them out of critical condition.”

Pashinyan said that the decrease in the number of new cases proves that the government’s restrictions are effective. “Please, uphold all the restrictions as much as possible over the next week so that we will be able to ease some of these restrictions starting Monday if we can.”

Nikol Pashinyan also spoke about someone’s comment during his Q&A video about price increases. He said that the issue was regarding price increases in Vanadzor, and the Chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition said that the commission will be looking into the issue to understand why the price of bread specifically has increased in Vanadzor. “I ordered the commission to look into the issue. The chairman said that the price of some items has decreased. We will continue to follow and monitor the situation. The issue is that we need to make sure that people do not take advantage of the situation while also understanding that it is possible for there to be changes in price.”

According to Pashinyan’s sources, 2 billion, 353 million AMD has been distributed among legal and physical entities within the framework of the government’s 9 social assistance packages. “This means that people will be able to receive their financial assistance at the bank. Some people have already received it, and others will receive it soon. It depends on their actions.”
