‘Aliyev openly confessed that Nikol Pashinyan begged him to not fire in Dushanbe so that the former authorities won’t return’: Armen Ashotyan

The vice president of the Republican Party of Armenia, Armen Ashotyan, is concerned about the activities taking place surrounding the Artsakh issue. He announced this during a press conference with reporters at the Hayeli press club. By the way, Armen Ashotyan believes that all events taking place in the newly independent Armenia are tied to the Artsakh issue.

“Aliyev openly confessed that Nikol Pashinyan begged him to not fire in Dushanbe so that the former authorities won’t return,” Armen Ashotyan said in reference to Aliyev’s statement on September 19th about how Armenia is to blame for the fact that there are no negotiations. He added that they have always said that Nikol Pashinyan is prepared to trample upon the national-state agenda in order to strengthen his authority. He also said that Pashinyan “swallowed” the Vienna and St. Petersburg agreements in Dushanbe, and he did not need Aliyev in order to know this. Aliyev simply confirmed it.

Armen Ashotyan said that Aliyev’s statements have a clear political motive and they are simply a piece of an overall policy. “If we add those onto the statements made by the Turkish side, we will understand that Azerbaijan doesn’t just want Artsakh- Turkey and Azerbaijan want Artsakh and Armenia. Taking into consideration world-political processes, they are even hungrier. Pan-Turkic dreams include far more than just Artsakh. To listen to Nikol Pashinyan’s poor statements when he should have opposed Aliyev, to listen to the Minister of Foreign Affairs avoid commenting on Aliyev’s speech because it was emotional, and to leave this all up to Azerbaijani affairs experts, is simply ridiculous.”

The vice president of the RPA said that the tanks and cannons are clearly visible behind all of Aliyev’s statements. “We are not scared of war. It has always been a way to prove the statehood of Artsakh and Armenia. But the issue is far deeper. If there is a war, Armenia should not be to blame for that war.” According to Armen Ashotyan, the Armenian side is clearly losing in the information war. He does not understand why our diplomats are not discussing Zohrab Mnatsakanyan’s statement about how Erdogan’s people are being transported to Azerbaijan in the international press. Meanwhile, Azeri-Turkish propagandists write that Armenia is taking Kurds to Armenia every day. Armen Ashotyan believes that the state propaganda system has solely focused on making the current authorities’ opponents look bad.

Armen Ashotyan said that there is a lot of chaos in terms of Artsakh’s and Armenia’s statements. After listening to the President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan’s statement yesterday about how he would dream of having Nikol Pashinyan as his superior because that would mean Armenia and Artsakh have been united, Armen Ashotyan said it was painful to hear the head of the second Armenian state dismissing statehood instead of being its defender. “We can drink 15 better toasts about why Armenia and Artsakh should unite. More powerful officials cannot do that because it would affect the logic behind the negotiations process, which is based on Artsakh’s right to self-determination.”

After all of this, Ashotyan is under the impression that Nikol Pashinyan was likely given a deal that he couldn’t refuse, as Lavrov had said, or there is a process taking place that makes Armenia the one to blame.
