Human rights activist, a laureate of Peace and Human Rights International Prizes, a coordinator of NKR Committee of “Helsinki Initiative-92” Karen Ohanjanyan writes in his Facebook account:
“I have been reflecting for a long time whether to write about this or not. During the first war I facilitated release of hundreds of Azerbaijani prisoners of war and hostages, risking my own life. However, I went into this humanitarian deed hoping that my actions, the actions of my peers from Armenia and Azerbaijan will lay the foundation in the result of which relations based on peaceful coexistence of the states of Artsakh, Azerbaijan and Armenia, will be laid.
A unique story links me and each of the saved Azerbaijani persons. I am more than sure that the former hostages and prisoners of war of Azerbaijani nationality remember me, remember how I supported them by means of ensuring their decent living on the territory of Nagorno Karabakh prior to their mainly unilateral transfer (release) to Azerbaijan. For this very reason I believe that I have the right to call upon all Azerbaijanis of good will, mainly the Azerbaijanies, who live outside of the territory of Azerbaijan, because the authorities of Azerbaijan have closed all social networks. I have no other choice but to call upon the Azerbaijani diaspora with the purpose of informing about the reality.
Dear friends, totally innocent soldiers of your country are dying in Nagorno-Karabakh – Artsakh as a result of aggression of your country, cities and villages are destroyed both in your country and our country. The number of killed Azerbaijani soldiers has exceeded two thousand and I do not see an end to this tragedy because of the false agenda of Azerbaijani leadership. The bodies of your soldiers are lying in forests, trenches, on immense spaces of the battlefield. We fight for our Motherland and will fight until the victorious end. The war will end at some moment and it will end in our favour as we have already thrown back the main forces of international coalition of aggressors beyond the boundaries of the present-day Artsakh and after that we must sit at the table of negotiations and, in the first place, begin to solve humanitarian issues. Among these issues, the priority one will be reciprocal transfer of bodies. You understand that thousands of bodies are lying in forests, and are being damaged by jackals, wolves, wild boars and other animals. It will be impossible to identify them or to find the remains. As a result, the number of families which will seek their missing sons, husbands and fathers, will grow by thousands.
