“What took place was an act of aggression against the Republic of Armenia. What has Armenia done over the past 30 years with the accumulated legal base that we have in a bilateral format with Russia and within the framework of our CSTO membership, which has been taken off the shelves and put into circulation? But it is very insufficient because the border crisis has not been resolved,” candidate from the Shirinyan-Babajanyan bloc Ruben Mehrabyan said during a public discussion on “Prospects for resolving the border situation.”
He noted that official Paris’ and Washington’s position is that the negotiations must restart within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group trilateral co-chairs, and the Artsakh conflict must be resolved in that process. “Armenia must announce that it is prepared to restart negotiations today, throwing the ball in Russia’s and Azerbaijan’s court. Aliyev would have never been so insidious if he were not convinced that the CSTO would have had a different response, and if he did not have guarantees from Russia that it would at least not interfere. I am ruling that out.”
