They have voted and are enjoying it

There are profanities in all the camps of the Armenian political field. In my opinion, the best thing is to ignore the naysayers and not offend them in any case. What good is a web site if it simply “blends in” with everything else out there? The same, of course, applies to the current Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

Manifestations of poor upbringing are, of course, painful, but in this case it is not personal; it is a public issue. Why can the leader of Armenia behave like this? Very simple: because the active majority of the population of Armenia likes it.  Representatives of Pashinyan’s 680,000-strong electorate, seeing him waving a finger (or maybe something else), smile at each other, perhaps even greet each other, and shout with satisfaction, “Did you see how he went after those thieves?”

As it is known, the Prime Minister does not have a press secretary, but this duty is successfully performed by several dozen of his subordinates, the Civil Contract deputies. Their argument is the following: “Was it good that the opposition was throwing bottles?” This is similar to the official Russian propaganda thesis, “Was it okay if the Americans were bombing Belgrade or Iraq?” The wrongdoings of one person or one state do not justify the wrongdoings of another person or state.

In short, “what if” is not a serious argument. I offer a stronger argument to the “press secretaries” of the Prime Minister (those who justify all his steps). He was elected by the overwhelming majority of citizens who participated in the elections. Therefore, they expect such behavior from Pashinyan.

I have always been convinced that society shapes political leaders and not the other way around. This is especially true in cases where the election results are not seriously questioned by anyone. Such elections were, in particular, the 1991, 2018, 2021 elections. And now let’s try to explain why the majority of citizens chose a Ph.D. in 1991 and the one who waved a finger or something else in 2021. I see one of our biggest problems here.

Taxi drivers in their cars often loudly turn on the monologues of one of our compatriots living in the United States and smile with satisfaction at each “wave of the finger.” When I ask them to turn off the recording, they justify themselves. “Yes, I understand that you do not like it, but the person is saying the right things.”
