Aram Sargsyan, the chairman of the Republic party, made a remarkable observation on his Facebook page. He wrote: “Azerbaijan and Russia did not respond to the offer of new border checkpoints opened by Armenia, which is very natural. They do not need them. What they want is “facilitated” passage through Meghri under Russian control. Iran’s nuclear program is almost agreed upon, and the parties are very close to its approval.
This perspective is opposed to regional Russian-Turkish projects and interests, which is why the pressure on Armenia has increased in the last month, and the processes have accelerated. I am also convinced that the Moscow contacts are in the context of pressure, and the Brussels meeting is the complete opposite, because now more than ever the EU needs Persian energy carriers. I am sure that the interests of the EU, Armenia, and Iran coincide, and the Armenian authorities are obliged to serve the interests of Armenia and not of the “strategic partner.””
