The representatives of today’s government and the parliamentary opposition from time to time put into circulation a 25-year-old meme, as if Levon Ter-Petrossian said, “Let’s hand over Artsakh and live well.” This baseless attribution is not worth discussing, linking it to the name of the first president, but this wording best characterizes the program consistently implemented by the current government and its propaganda. It is obvious that this government does not feel responsible for the fate of Artsakh.
The responsibility seems to be spread over 29,800 square kilometers at best, which they think can be saved, leaving tens of thousands of our compatriots living in Artsakh unprotected. For this purpose, by the way, the negative attitude of the lumpen mass of the Armenian society towards the people of Artsakh is not openly encouraged and inflamed.
But that plan to save the Republic of Armenia by sacrificing Artsakh is not realistic. And today, September 21, it’s worth talking about. Let’s leave aside the moral side of the issue and even accept that 680,000 Armenians would welcome the emigration of Artsakh citizens. But from a purely pragmatic point of view, that whole calculation is wrong.
The threats to the sovereign territory of Armenia and especially to Syunik will not be neutralized, but will intensify. No peace will be established. Azerbaijan and Turkey will continue their encroachments, and all this may end with the end of this phase of Armenian statehood.

I am sorry that the government does not understand this. I am sorry that the electorate of the government is not interested in statehood at all. I am sorry that a significant part of our society manages to be occupied with a false pro-Russian and pro-Western agenda.
I would very much like to write words with pathos on the occasion of Independence Day. But at the moment it doesn’t work.
