Not believing naive analysts

October 22,2022 18:35

The consulate of Iran has opened in Kapan. The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hosein Amir-Abdollahian, was present at the opening. This, surely, contains a geopolitical message directed mainly at the Turkish-Azerbaijani alliance. The Iranian minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized repeatedly, that his country would not let the borders of the region change, meaning the ambitions our neighbors have towards the Syunik region, of course. To put it shortly, this way, the event that took place yesterday can be estimated only positively.

However, I think that some of our analysts are wrong when they express opinions that the US and Iran have the same interests in Armenia. Maybe this opinion is a result of gullibility, wanting to present the desired as the truth. The interests of those countries are the opposite everywhere, and our region is not an exception, I highly doubt that Iranian activity is estimated positively by the US. There is a lot of evidence to support that, for example, recently, the Principal Deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel noted that Iran is infamous for its destabilizing activity in the region. He also added that the UN’s 2231 formula prohibits Iran from selling any weapon to another country. The context, of course, is the ongoing shelling, but the overall attitude toward the problem is apparent. On this occasion, let me remind you of an announcement Iranian general Savafi made about 22 countries appealing to buy Iranian drones. Some sources consider Armenia as one of those countries.

So to sum up, the interests of the US and Iran are completely different. The US, despite having a friendly attitude towards our country, is mainly interested in weakening Iran. And in the case of Armenia – however, it turns out. The west would not be upset if the Armenian state collapses, the matter of preserving our statehood is not a priority for them. Iran, on the other hand, is interested in us having a sovereign state. Russia might also have an interest in our statehood being preserved, although Kremlin wants us to be their satellite (this is the occasion when I completely trust the Trusted Source). How can we solve this complicated rebus? This is a question for our diplomacy and government. But if they trust our analysts, who believe that we can create an Armenian-American-Iranian alliance against Turkey, then they are on the wrong path, to put it mildly.
