Sergei Parajanov’s statue to be installed in Yerevan. (Photo series)

Armradio.am.  As part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of Sergei Parajanov, the film director’s statue (sculptor: Ara Alekyan) will be installed in the area adjacent to the Cinema House.

For the 100th anniversary of the film director, screenwriter, people’s artist of the ASSR, Sergei Parajanov, a governmental committee has been set up under the chairmanship of the chief of staff of the RA Prime Minister Araik Harutyunyan.

Parajanov’s 100th anniversary is included in the UNESCO list of events.

 

Arayik Harutyunyan, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, chairman of the jubilee committee for the 100th birth anniversary of People’s Artist of the USSR, famous film director Sergey Parajanov, today participated in the opening ceremony of the statue of Sergei Parajanov, which will be later installed in front of the Cinema House. The sculptor of the statue is Ara Alekyan.

Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, representatives of the culture sector also participated in the event.

The Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister congratulated everyone on the occasion of the opening of the statue and noted. “This is truly a very important day for us because we are marking the 100th anniversary of the maestro. It happened so that the jubilees of our three elders, Sergei Parajanov, Aram Khachatryan and Charles Aznavour are in 2023-2024. Those are the people through whom the Armenian people present themselves to the whole world and become recognizable, people whose names are immediately associated with Armenia and the Armenian people.”

Other events are planned within the framework of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Parajanov, which is included in the UNESCO Calendar of anniversaries of eminent personalities and important events for the 2024-2025, in connection with which Araik Harutyunyan said: “Today is Parajanov’s birthday, but our events, approved by the government commission, will be held throughout the year. We have a number of big events during the year, we have confirmed more than 30 programs. We will celebrate the jubilee not only in the Republic of Armenia, in Yerevan, in the regions, but also abroad, in particular, in Georgia and France, we already have planned some programs.”

Summarizing the speech, Arayik Harutyunyan emphasized. “We have also tried to combine the programs dedicated to our other prominent people, because they also merge with each other at certain edges, and thereby popularize their culture even further.”

After the opening ceremony of the statue, the attendees got acquainted with Davit Galstyan’s “Gioconda. transformation” exhibition.
