Candidacy Withdrawals Are Forced in the Heritage Party, Nonetheless

May 22,2012 22:48

The Heritage Party has not made it clear yet which of those included in that party list for proportional representation will be included in their parliamentary group of the new convocation of the parliament. That is still under discussion, it will be clarified and a respective decision will be made at the convention of the Heritage Party to take place on June 2. Hovsep Khurshudyan, the press secretary of the Heritage Party, said that during a conversation with www.aravot.am, talking about the information spread these days that they tried to force candidates on the list for proportional representation to withdraw candidacies, and basically didn’t deny our information.

In response to a question whether it was possible that there would be changes in five persons who would assume the offices, according to the election results and the first five candidacies on the list for proportional representation, Khurshudyan said “everything is possible.” The press secretary of the party added also, in response to our question, that the issue of the Heritage Party candidates would be discussed at the convention and as for the possible withdrawals of the Free Democrats Party candidates included in the joint list for proportional representation, Khurshudyan had difficulty saying anything about them.

According to our information, blogger Isabella Abgaryan who was in the 9th place of the Heritage Party list for proportional representation was offered to withdraw her candidacy, but she refused. Ms. Abgaryan herself confirmed during a conversation with www.aravot.am that she had been offered to withdraw her candidacy, but she denied that she had refused to do that. The blogger said that the Heritage Party itself had made her an offer to be included in the party list for proportional representation at the time and she had agreed and at present, when she had been offered to withdraw her candidacy, she had deemed it right to do so. She said that she was not elected to the parliament, this way or another, and withdrawing her candidacy didn’t mean anything in that sense. Isabella Abgaryan assured that she still had good relationship with the Heritage Party and she was going to continue cooperation with that political force.

Let us remind that as a result of the election that took place on May 6, the Heritage Party got 5 seats in the parliament and according to the sequence of the candidates on the list for proportional representation, Raffi Hovhannisyan, Khachatur Kokobelyan, Zaruhi Postanjyan, Alexander Arzumanyan and Rubik Hakobyan will assume the office of MP. According to some information, it is not ruled out that Raffi Hovhannisyan, the party leader, will withdraw his candidacy or will be one of those who will withdraw their candidacies. In order that Stepan Safaryan, the current parliamentary group leader of the Heritage Party who appeared in the 8th place on the party list for proportional representation, may appear in the parliament again, he needs not only Raffi Hovhannisyan’s withdrawal, but also the withdrawals of Tevan Poghosyan who appeared in the 6th place on the list and free democrat Mayis Ayvazyan.

Let us remind that the free democrats have already stated once that they don’t discuss the issue of rejecting the offices.
