The Assassination Attempt on Hayrikyan, Jealous Women, Kirov, and Adibekyan

February 04,2013 10:59

There is a lot of speculation these days as to who organized and arranged the assassination attempt on Paruyr Hayrikyan, the leader of the Union for National Self-Determination (UNSD) and a candidate for president. Paruyr Hayrikyan himself states that representatives of Russia’s secret service are behind this attack.

Aharon Adibekyan, the director of Sociometer, a sociological center, put forward his objections to this statement at a press conference: “I know such things about Hayrikyan… there’s a problem there too. Perhaps, they got even with him.” www.aravot.am inquired of A. Adibekyan what he knew about Mr. Hayrikyan. The social scientist replied: “I want to say that we should often look for reasons in the man’s personal biography, not in political one. In this case, it is a bit too much arrogance to reason that this is vengeance, a scheme of one state against another that manifested itself in an action against a secondary politician. It may be a domestic crime. One should treat Hayrikyan’s statement a bit cautiously.”

During the press conference, Mr. Adibekyan put forward the version of jealous women with regard to P. Haryikyan’s assassination. We inquired what reasons he had to express such an opinion. A. Adibekyan replied: “Kirov’s assassination was caused by a woman’s jealous husband. He had psychologically harassed his wife, who was close to Kirov and could have married him, so much that she murdered Kirov herself. Therefore, one should be cautious, while making analyses. One shouldn’t make statements about the secret service of a big country not having evidence. Not only reasons, but also consequences are important.”
