* How will the events develop, in your opinion?
* I expressed my opinion as early as immediately after the election, on February 19, that the most appropriate step for Raffi Hovhannisyan would be to congratulate the elected President of the Republic of Armenia. Unfortunately, Mr. Hovhannisyan still tries to play for time, contradicting himself by that. Let me explain that it is no secret to anyone that the votes won by Mr. Hovhannisyan were not cast for him personally or his party – we saw how many votes they got in the parliamentary election a few months ago – but against the government, but it is no secret that they were not enough to win, since the ruling party’s candidate won twice as many votes, which was recorded by the preliminary results of the election. One should take note of this reality. On the other hand, a candidate who had conducted an absolutely Western-style campaign didn’t take an adequate attitude after the election; I wrote about that on my Facebook wall as early as yesterday, noting that Raffi Hovhannisyan was not a revolutionary figure in the positive sense. I think he will not lead people to confrontation and will show enough astuteness to come to his senses.
* What do you mean by saying “come to his senses”?
* I respect Mr. Hovhannisyan and I am almost convinced that he loves the country and the people so much that he will not lead them to an ordeal, i.e. he loves them not only emotionally, but also really. This is my conviction, and my concern is the following; first of all, it is visible to the unaided eye that some politicians and political forces try to pull their chestnuts out of the fire with Mr. Hovhannisyan’s hands, they try to trouble the situation, let the candidate who came second forgive me, using him, cause tension. I already see some people rub their hands with excitement. If they had loved Raffi so much, they should have gone and voted for Raffi, instead of spoiling ballots, or looking on as the election campaign progressed, they should have put aside their personal ungrounded aspirations and stood by Raffi. Since they haven’t done it when needed, they should step aside; they don’t have the right to do anything else. Spare Freedom Square, spare our citizens; let them not cherish illusions.
