Razmik Petrosyan, an Artsakh movement and war active participant, member of the “Krunk” Committee, Board member of the National Council of Artsakh, also the head of the self-defense squads and Deputy of the Supreme Council of RA first convocation, is one of the people who has raised the need for equipping the army with modern weapons for years. Our briefing with him is about the April known events and other topical issues.
– I think that we need to be prepared to the extent (both in combat training and arm) that nothing would be unexpected, especially there was no lack of numerous subversive penetration and other incidents until now. The reality showed that we were able to throw back the enemy thanks to the personal bravery and spirit of our soldiers. And we should have thought about the arms beforehand and not rely only on Russians (especially as they are not always honest in their business relationships). Or else, we have this, we have that. Well, what other more important reason there should be to see this satisfactory level of armaments,” he says.
– And what is necessary?
– It is necessary for all of us to be united around the idea of the historical perspective of the motherland, it is necessary to create a fund that will be coordinated by three, let’s say, the most reliable, the most respected and acceptable for us Armenians. Incidentally, let the state do not intervene here. This will be a national project and all the funds will be directed at the procurement of arms. Let me also say that in the case of proper arms, we definitely could not have that many deaths. Ultimately, our goal as said by the European General is not dying for the sake of the homeland but to compel the enemy to die for his country. Also, I have repeatedly told our leaders, “who needs so many capital constructions, buy weapons.” The rich should also understand that it should not be limited to symbolic donations, there is no other way out, what other more important objective there should be. Otherwise, it turns out that we have a strong army of Armenian wealthy persons but such a snapshot. I, at least, know the Turks very well, if you are armed better than they and are stronger than they, then they will never attack you.

– It is also talked about the possibility of deployment of peacekeepers.
– I do not expect any good thing from such prospect. We need up-to-date weaponry rather than peacekeepers. And when a final lucidity will be made on our issue – Artsakh’s final status that will suffice us will be clear (let’s say, Artsakh’s independence will be recognized), in that case, we could think about the deployment of peacekeepers.
