During the discussion of the government’s plan, the only contradictor of the Prime Minister was the Republican faction, since there is no other opposition in the Armenian parliament. (I think the Republicans’ criticizing “methodology” was a wrong choice, but we will talk about it another time). However, there was also the so-called “opposition of the opposition”, the “Tsarukyan” alliance, the deputies of which did not talk about how good the government’s plan of Pashinyan was, a government where the “Prosperous Armenia” party has its representatives, but about how bad Republicans were daring to criticize the government’s plan, and bad not because they wrongly assessed the plan, but because of their previous (mostly real) sins.
There have been “oppositions of opposition” in the history of Armenia, and often such things have happened after the change of power, when the former government becomes opposition, and political forces are trying to collect points by criticizing the ones “rejected” by the public. It was so, particularly in 1998, when the Armenian National Movement became opposition, and about a dozen political forces fought against the “former criminal regime” for a year and received support from part of the public. ‘
In case of the “Prosperous Armenia” party, there is another factor that motivates them to be more active in parliament to fight against the Republicans than “Yelq” does. Gevorg Gorgisyan or Lena Nazaryan has no problem to prove that they have nothing to do with the phenomenon called “criminal oligarchic system”, the environment where they come from did not deal with it in any way. While the members of the “Tsarukyan” alliance have to present themselves as separate from that system.
Now they think that in the past 10 years Armenia was in a dictatorial regime. (Personally, I think that is not so: dictatorship is not a curse, it is a political category, the features of which our country never had). But let us suppose the label “dictatorship” is right. So why has the “Prosperous Armenia” party signed coalition memorandum with the dictator twice and taken ministerial and other posts during the dictatorship? Of course, it is not excluded that the party considers such behavior wrong now. In that case they should announce, “sorry, we have made a mistake”.
