Armenia not on YouTube list, stays behind Azerbaijan and Georgia

February 25,2019 21:05

Resident of the Chelyabinsk city of Russia, Sayat Harutyunyan, who is the owner of the “Tso Blog” YouTube channel, informed Aravot in an interview that, unlike neighboring Georgia and Azerbaijan, Armenia is not a country in YouTube’s Partner Program. Therefore, Armenian YouTube does not have a trending section.

According to Harutyunyan, if Armenia becomes one of YouTube’s Partner countries, then Armenians can make money from getting lots of views on their videos. Besides that, it will give newly created channels an opportunity to develop quickly, and will give people more motivation to create high-quality videos.

“It is truly insulting that Georgia and Azerbaijan are including in YouTube’s Partner Program, but Armenia is not. So there is a YouTube.az, YouTube.ru, but not a YouTube.am. And if any of our YouTubers gets onto the trending page, that is thanks to Armenians living in Russia. This issue can be resolved, I think. It has started to make bloggers and representatives of the show business worried. Even an Armenian blogger in Great Britain went to the Google and YouTube headquarters in Britain regarding this issue, where they said that the main YouTube headquarters in California is taking care of the issue. A petition was created that 4,000 people signed. This is an issue of honor,” Sayat Harutyunyan said.
