At the ‘Artsakh Conflict Resolution Process in 2019’ panel organized by the Orbeli analytical center, political analyst and YSU professor Alen Ghevondyan discussed uncertainty, the Armenian side regarding the Artsakh issue from a human rights perspective, and the Azeri side’s political ambitions of Artsakh being a lodgement.
“When speaking about Artsakh’s right to security and existence, we need to clarify that it is first Armenia’s right to existence,” the political analyst said.
Speaking about public diplomacy and the public’s understanding, he added, “When we speak about the conflict’s resolution, we need to clarify how prepared the sides are to resolve the conflict.” He also spoke about the painful reality and memory, as well as the Madrid Principles, which, according to the political analyst, have not changed from being the main principles.
According to Alen Ghevondyan, Azerbaijan is a state that has been using hateful propaganda for years, which means that its alleged steps towards peace cannot be realistic. “The sprouts of peace cannot bloom. People remember the violence that the Azeri Special Forces used against civilians in Talish in April of 2016, and memory is a very powerful tool so that personal borders will or will not be eliminated…”

Alen Ghevondyan also spoke about the ‘land concession’ theory that has been mentioned a lot recently. He said that this is a method of manipulation that has and will always exist. The reason for it is the informational vacuum.
