Speaking to reporters on December 21, Gagik Melkonyan, a member of the Civil Contract and the NA Committee on Defense and Security, addressed Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people, urging their president to demand their corpses left behind in our territories from 1994.
“Azerbaijanis show that they have won the war. Our government is doing its best to return both the captives and our corpses. We have not stopped thinking about our captives, our missing. I want to ask a question to Mr. Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people. In the spring of 1994, in the last period of the war, they left tens, hundreds of people’s bodies behind and fled. We have buried the bodies of those hundreds of victims. If he is suddenly interested, if he is a heroic president, let him say, I want to return those corpses to my people. If they wish to have the bodies returned, I will map these burial sites one by one and show where we have buried the hundreds of casualties.
Let them take their casualties and bury them. In 1994, they left thousands of corpses and fled, and we were able to collect those corpses. We collected those corpses for about two months and organized the funeral. Let Aliyev remember that through international organizations, we gave them their captives. When we gave the captives to them in 1994, the captives did not go to Azerbaijan; they went to live in other countries. They asked our authorities to go to other countries.”
