Serzh Sargsyan was also present at the rally convened by the parliamentary opposition in Freedom Square on April 5. When the participants of the rally marched to the French Square, they raised the flag of Artsakh in the center, and the third President of the Republic of Armenia was following the ceremony. Aravot asked the President that if on April 6, it turns out that more territories were ceded in Brussels by verbal agreement, then what will the opposition and the public do?
“I am sure that no document will be signed tomorrow. Thousands of our compatriots have declared principles to be signed, not to be signed, whatever they want, and they will remain faithful to those principles. If those principles are deviated from, as it was announced in Freedom Square, we reserve the right to change these authorities by any means available,” the President replied.
We were also interested in the fact that Hayk Mamijanyan, an MP from the I Have Honor alliance, stated in his speech at the rally that the solution to the Artsakh problem is only in the domain of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs. Taking into account that today severe sanctions are imposed on the Russian Federation, the most active participants of which are the United States, France, and how effectively will the Minsk Group work in this case, Mr. Serzh Sargsyan answered, “It simply came to our notice then. For some time now, there have been disagreements between Russia and the West, but during that period the Minsk Group has worked, it has worked quite effectively. Let’s hope it works this time too. But even without the Minsk Group, we have dictated principles, and Armenia must be guided by those principles. Otherwise, what I said will happen.”
