Remain human at all costs

July 16,2022 10:33

When it became known in the fall of 2018 that Manvel Grigoryan had health problems, in one of my articles I urged the government and its fans to show generosity. In response, one of my acquaintances, whom I respected and who was never known for cruelty, began to enumerate the general’s sins, concluding the enumeration with a rhetorical question: “Was Manvel generous?” Maybe that acquaintance of mine was in a revolutionary fever, and it was understandable 4 years ago, but now, perhaps, it is a little strange.

Did Manvel commit sins? Of course. He was a field commander, and after 1994, that way of thinking, that way of working was transferred to a peaceful, civilian life, and the state, the government, not only did not hinder it, but encouraged it to a certain extent. But in 2018, it was about something completely different and, in my opinion, more important: showing a humane attitude towards everyone, regardless of everything, and putting aside all other circumstances.

I did not like at all what the Sasna Tsrer group did in 2016; the capture and murder of the police group cannot have any justification. But arresting the “Bread Bringer”, Artur Sargsyan, for the second time is certainly a testimony of the brutality of the authorities of that time, and for the death of that person, at least morally, that authority is responsible. When I wrote about all that, they scolded me: why don’t you write that the “Bread Bringer” is a hero, a rebel, etc.? I didn’t write it because I didn’t think like that, and at that moment again that wasn’t the important thing. The important thing was to show a humane attitude towards people.

Now, when producer Armen Grigoryan died, I consider it pointless to discuss the case attributed to him (I hope, however, that in the future the lawyers will be consistent and find out whether it was right to initiate a criminal case on the basis of what he said, and even more so to keep him in custody for months). Now, to tell the truth, I am more concerned about the sad state of our society, to put it mildly. Judging by the reactions on Facebook, many of our fellow citizens, continuing to live with the revolutionary fever and due to this, the worship of Pashinyan, rejoice at the death of a man. If there are 680,000 such people, I doubt that our state has a future. Let us recognize that such treatment of human life is a serious threat to our security.

…I repeat, I consider the action of the so-called Sasna Tsrer to be reprehensible. But today Varuzhan Avetisyan’s life is in danger, according to his relatives. Humane treatment is also needed here. There is nothing more precious than human life.
