“We are with you, dear citizens of Artsakh; stay strong”․ Yesterday, our compatriots from Denmark organized a protest and hunger strike at the EU representation in Copenhagen to support 120 thousand Artsakh citizens, 30 thousand children, and women under siege. They called the protest a “Hunger strike for our dignity.” In addition, they prepared an open letter, which they will send to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, where they particularly urge to apply sanctions against Azerbaijan, which is carrying out the Armenian genocide. In a conversation with us, one of the organizers, our compatriot, Byurakn Ishkhanyan, informed us that there are already about 30 signatures under the letter.
In a conversation with Aravot.am, Lilit Sahakyan, participant and organizer of the protest in Copenhagen, said that many passers-by responded, were interested, and read the posters. “Many people in Denmark and Sweden are not informed; they see, are surprised, and amazed. Those who are informed say they are with us.”
An incident was registered during the demonstration; an Azerbaijani man passed by that section and started shouting, “Karabakh is Azerbaijan.” “He came and went, turned around several times, made provocations, tried to disturb. He was driving by; we were standing on the sidewalk. As he was passing, he saw us and started shouting very loudly. Then he left, returned, turned on Azerbaijani music, danced in his car, and did monkey tricks. But mostly people, passers-by show us their support. That is how people become aware.”

Lilit Sahakyan answered why they are protesting in front of the EU representation. “Our goal is for them to respond. We are now standing in front of the EU representation; there are two flags; one is the EU flag, and the other is not the flag of Denmark, which it should be, but of Ukraine; that is, everything they do is selective, their propaganda is selective and very biased. That’s why we stood here so that they could see if there were people who demanded attention. Do you understand Artsakh is not without an owner?”
During the protest, the great-grandson of the Danish missionary Maria Jacobsen passed through that section. Let’s remind that Jacobsen, being a nurse, took care of thousands of Armenian orphans as a result of the Armenian Genocide, fed 4,500 children, saving them from starvation, and now her great-grandson, bypassing the calls to prevent the new genocide, expressed his support for the sake of Artsakh Armenians.
