“I DON’T CHANGE MY MIND SO FREQUENTLY”

May 17,2007 00:00

RPA Chairman of Council, Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan tells the journalists.

Will RPA form the government lonely?

It is too early to speak about it.

         What is your wish?

I don’t change my mind so frequently. I have expressed my  wish a month before and told that the government will gain more confidence if different political forces are included in the government.

Will be any changes in the government staff then?

I \’m surprised at your strange conclusion. Who has said that no changes will be inside the government? There will be essential changes.

Will ARF remain the part of government?

         I told my opinion.

What is your approach about the forthcoming presidential elections?

My approach is already positive. I think that the elections showed that our party had a serious vote of confidence and if the party makes such a decision, I’ll nominate my candidacy.

Are the extraordinary elections possible in Armenia?

         Certainly, they aren’t.

Will you involve the forces which remained out of the parliament in the executive body?

Yes, it is possible for us to collaborate with any political force, with any capable person.

How that new government will be called: coalition, national or other?

I can’t answer your question now. When we form the government, when we finish the government’s project, then we’ll give a name to it.

How do you explain that “National Unity”, PPA and other opposition parties weren’t included in the parliament? Which is your opinion?

You know, the parliament isn\’t elastic, it has 131 seats, and the struggle was for those seats. So there is no reason to give any remark.

Mr. Sargsyan, the new elected parliament is considered pro-NATO, non-Russian parliament, do you share those standpoints.

No, I don\’t, as I don\’t know who gives such a remark  and how.

Ad what you think about Russian media claims as if the pro-Russian forces won in the elections. What are your attitudes towards that claim?

I have declared for many times that I and RPA consider our party as a pro-Armenian party and not pro-Russian or pro-NATO. We have always tried to achieve such projects which will solve the security issues of our people, and we are interested in other\’s interests as much as the others are interested in ours.

Did you expect that  Rafi Hovanisyan would be elected, and did it have any connection with the forthcoming presidential elections?

I don\’t connect any general action with the upcoming presidential elections.

The opposition declared about 400 thousand false passports, your comments about it?

         I don\’t have any comment.

Were the results of elections unexpected for you?

I have told for several times that if we win 25 or more percents in the elections, I should think that we have worked well. We have always been modest in our aspirations, and now I think that we have worked well. There is always somebody who complains, there is no perfect electoral system in any country. We are satisfied with the election results, and I hope that our people and our western partners will mark the upcoming presidential elections as corresponding to international standards.
