So, Raffi Hovhannisyan showing once again that political ambitions are secondary for him took his name off the list of candidates for majoritarian representation in no. 7 electoral district. Can you imagine what the Armenian National Congress (ANC) members would have done to him, if he hadn’t – according to their cultural level, calling him “client,” “drum” and “security council secretary (scs)” would have seemed euphemism? I assess Mr. Hovhannisyan’s step as a manifestation of his personal qualities, not as an expression of his party’s position. Because his fellow party members in other electoral districts – e.g. Zaruhi Postanjyan – would not do the same thing. Well, one can never expect such a thing from the ANC; as we know, they are the one right and the one opposition force. The blackmail will continue from those positions, “If you don’t do this, I will say that you are this.”
The establishment needs exactly that – these mutual piquing remarks at kindergarten level between the oppositionists, which the pro-government propaganda will exaggerate to cosmic scale, if necessary and there are a few people standing out on the RPA list, whose main function is to say bad things about the first president and his supporters. Probably distracting the society with such meaningless things absolutely fits in the establishment’s scenario of the election campaign. With its significance such a debate will not differ from singing and dancing of a lot of stars during pre-election events organized by the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) or the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP). Whereas I would like the respectful members of the electoral process to debate on economic, social, legal and cultural problems really existing. Probably it is not much fun as a show, but you will agree that the condition of the majority of the Armenian population doesn’t cause much fun either. The debate on serious issues should contribute to not only the voter’s making up his mind, but also using his brain, in the end, to achieving real change in our lives.
I conducted such a correctly-oriented debate, from my perspective, on A1+ yesterday. Republican Vardan Ayvazyan and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) member Atsvik Minasyan were discussing economic issues – they discussed them actively, passionately, but they didn’t cross the limits of politeness. And most importantly, they spoke of precise things – taxes, monopolies, small and medium enterprises. I am not a professional, but it seems to me that as a result of such discussions, it is possible to uncoil the “clew” of most serious problems.
At the end of the day, cursing and blackmailing each other will be politically marginalized.
