Judging from the results of the parliamentary election that took place on May 6, according to the distribution of votes, Stepan Safaryan, still the current leader of the Heritage Party parliamentary group, will not appear in the new convocation of the National Assembly. Assessing the election that took place during a conversation with www.aravot.am, Stepan Safaryan said, “I cannot be satisfied with these election results at all, but a large part of the society shouldn’t be displeased with either the country or the government or the election results, because, I don’t say the majority, but obviously many people cast their votes of their own freewill. I don’t want to talk about the massive election fraud that was used and was obvious. There will be time to talk about it in the future. But one cannot expect more in a country, where elections gradually become worse.”
The leader of the Heritage Party parliamentary group said about not winning a seat in the National Assembly that if he didn’t go to the National Assembly, he would have another job and added, “It is not the end of the world.” Safaryan also asserted that the expression of will by the part of our society that had voted the day before, in particular, “and the votes of which were somehow brought,” was ensured. “It is a strange thing that Armenia has become an upside down country. One can work well, but not be appreciated. I am not talking about myself at all, but generally – one may not go to work, but be elected, one may not author any bill, but be elected. You see, the name of the Heritage Party was mentioned probably the most among the parliamentary groups as a parliamentary group that had worked well, but it turns out that MPs that work much should not be in the National Assembly. And this is also the opinion and choice of the society, because in this case, not only the government and its opinion were decisive, but also a large part of the society that actually shares that opinion and legitimizes that approach. I myself am not sad about not being elected, because, as I have already said once, I would be sadder, if my political force didn’t appear in the parliament. I know that I will continue my path and struggle also for my freedom, therefore, I don’t have any problem,” said Stepan Safaryan.
In response to a our question whether he expected post-election developments, the Heritage Party representative said, “Frankly speaking, seeing our society’s condition, I am a bit skeptical.”
