Who is the monster?

November 30,2013 14:37

Let’s take a moment to do a fantastic assumption. Armenia is an empire or a former empire, the Russians and the rest of the nations are our traditional “subservient”. What? Wouldn’t our authorities subdue those nations? Wouldn’t it seek to impose its will? Wouldn’t it try to cease the nations into a fight for the purpose of ruling? Finally, wouldn’t it be jealous, if these nations have tried to cooperate with other structures? Of course, they would do all of this, even worse than Russians. Most importantly, in this case, wouldn’t the majority of Armenians think that all these aspirations and ambitions are entirely justified and natural? It would. Of course, I, and others like me, would say that these nations should leave aside, but the public opinion would be against me, and some would even consider a traitor of the nation. It seems to me that we should not be surprised, offended or to complain for such behavior of the Russian (former Soviet) empire leaders. Exactly the same pattern was displayed by the Byzantine, British, Austrian, and lots of other empires. A certain exception is the Ottoman Empire, because Mongol-Tatar type of empires does not seek of having “subservient nations”; their ideology is to destruct or, at worst, assimilate these nations.

The problem, therefore, are not the empires that have their standard behavior, but the nations resistance. Here, there are options that are determined by several factors, namely the legitimacy of the authorities, national bourgeoisie interests, level of intellectual development of politicians and intellectuals, and so on. If our “major intellectual” is Zori Balayan, I strongly doubt about our resistance.

All complaints for possible import of Russian (or for rhetorical scenario, Belarusian) repressive model of humiliation, weakening of sovereignty and governance should be addressed to the Armenian authorities, our political elite and our society, and not to Russians or Europeans.

The situation is not such that malware Russians degrade us, and the enlightened West should save us, but it does not do it: “Крепитесь, Запад нам поможет” (Be brave, West will help us). All of them have their own interests, and to this sense, there are no good or bad partners, neighbors. No one is going to, is willing, and even is able to help us. Only we can solve our problems, if we like to. Do you remember? In the movie “The Toy”, the owner of a newspaper, Rambal-Koshe compels his editor to take off his pants. When the editor is going to do it, he is asking, “Now is not a monster, I that makes you undress, or you that are ready to do it.”
