Is disclosure of conspiracies our task?

February 04,2014 13:45

Every day, websites, print media, television, and radio in Armenia and all over the world disseminate both true news and misinformation. The latter appears in the media for different reasons: by a “click”, advocating something and it sometimes happens that we are just mistaken. Politicians and officials, usually, if they do not like any true or wrong information, are looking for the “clients” and, depending on the extent of their imagination, are noting the American or Russian “imperialism,” “masons”, “international force centers”, or their ” ill-wisher neighbor” by the name Gugo. The range of the “suspects” is big. Often, such paranoid displays are also found among those who are writing comments in the sites.

It is especially unpleasant when the media is entering into such “accounts”, and the political journalists begin to disclose the conspiracies of their colleagues, in serving for this-or-that “dark forces”. Such things often happen in Armenia. Thus, we assume the role of a police officer or a “KGB officer”, which is called to disclose some “enemies”.

But, when the media of a country begins to disclose the “clients” of another country and apply to foreign readers by a call for alertness, it seems to me that this is a fresh phenomenon. Perhaps, it fits into the “customs frames”. This is how “Regnum” news agency acts, which in its “statement” speaks about really absurd publications regarding Doku Umarov and Infectious Diseases, and adding absolutely natural debates going on in Armenia about the Customs Union and the role of Russia in the Karabakh conflict, and implies that it is an anti-Russian conspiracy.

“Regnum” warns us that there are US-funded “information conjurers”, whose long-term objectives showed the “Ukraine’s tragic events.” That same “dark forces” should be assumed to operate also in Armenia, and exercise an anti-Russian propaganda. However, the most awkward thing is that “Regnum” is referring to the law enforcement authorities of Armenia urging them to “efficiently respond” to those publications, that is, to punish the Armenian mass media. In short, “to conspire” against colleagues.

When the media editorial is expressing its opinion, it is normal. But, referring to the law enforcement authorities, it is already from a different genre.
