Today, the President of the Republic of Armenia has held a meeting with all the members of the Commission for Constitutional Amendments and has presented the preliminary draft of the Constitutional Amendments. At the briefing, Gagik Harutyunyan informed that in the course of the meeting they touched upon the change of the model for RA Government system and President Serzh Sargsyan had said that he is not intended to continue the leadership of the country as the next President of Armenia or as Prime Minister in the event of switching to alternative government, and urged the Commission to act freely. In this regard, in the conversation with Aravot.am, the ANC faction member Zoya Tadevosyan assured that Serzh Sargsyan’s statement does not mean anything to her. “During this entire period of Serzh Sargsyan’s tenure, I have my own opinion about him. I definitely would not like him to take the office of the president or the prime minister, which, of course, can happen only on the basis of fabrication of elections and constitutional amendments. The current Constitution does not give him this opportunity. Therefore, his statement, I think, is not quite a constitutional statement. In any case, the managers like Serzh Sargsyan have no right to come close to the Armenian throne. They do not have those merits that the president should have. They have no sense of statehood, commitment to the state. And such people are not even entitled to manage the housing and communal service, not to speak about being the next president or the prime minister.” At the tenure of Serzh Sargsyan, there were numerous recommendations from the opposition to shift to the parliamentary government system, but the authorities were constantly delaying the matter bringing different excuses and were not giving any proceeding. To our question of, now, when Serzh Sargsyan is trying to change the model of government, whether we can say that in the end of his term in office he wants to clean up the mistakes and make a positive step for the country, such as Tigran Sargsyan’s dismissal, Zoya Tadevosyan replied, “Serzh Sargsyan did not dismiss Tigran Sargsyan by his own will. He did it under the pressure of four political forces. Otherwise, the situation will get worse, and they would be forced not to resign, but one day to leave the country unexpectedly. Such a situation would be created. They realized it very well and prevented such possibility at a good time. And I never expect for a good step from Serzh Sargsyan. A person who wants to do good, or a person who realizes of leaving something behind after him would never come to power, at the cost of murders.” In his recent interview with iLur.am, ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan said that Serzh Sargsyan is a great master of intrigues behind the curtains. If we look at the things by this logic, we should see something beneficial for him behind his every move. To the question of what is behind the step of moving towards the Constitutional amendments and changing the government system of the country, and why he is trying to change the form of the government system, Zoya Tadevosyan replied, “I see more the possibility of avoiding a stricter punishment, and a tendency to come up with apologies.”
