“Heritage” faction MP Tevan Poghosyan thinks that Armenia should officially apply to the CSTO as Azerbaijan has opened a fire on Tavush Region, Armenia, during the night. In an interview with Aravot.am, Mr. Poghosyan expressed concern, “If before now we were thinking that perhaps it is one or two days, small cease-fire violations are taking place but the fact that they were shooting in the direction of Tavush region this night, this means that Azerbaijan is implementing a large-scale military operations.”
In response to our reminder that this night, Azerbaijan has used a “Smerch” multiple rocket system which it has bought from Russia, consequently, in this case what can be expected from Russia, Mr. Poghosyan stated that this issue has been repeatedly raised by various political forces, “We always raise this issue and warn that if Azerbaijan has acquired these weapons, it cannot but use them. But the government was trying to present it just as a commercial transaction. But in the past two years, the representatives of the ruling party also began to raise this issue.” Mr. Poghosyan is sure that Armenia need to apply to the international community on this issue, at least to present the issue to the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs as they are all member countries of the UN Security Council, “The issue should be presented in a way that the issue of sanctions should be raised at the UN against any country that will sell arms to Azerbaijan, Armenia or any other country.”
Attaching importance to the work with the international community, Tevan Poghosyan said at the same time, “I consider that the only force that will appease Azerbaijan will be the Defense Army of Armenia and the NKR, which will be able to give such an attack that Azerbaijan will be pacified.” To the question of how long this unprecedented tension will last, Mr. Poghosyan replied that it will happen until the Armenian army “will give the lesson to Azerbaijan that the adventures will bring it only losses.” Note that yesterday, the deputy of the head of the US State Department spokesperson, Mark Toner, said that the Karabakh problem should be solved taking into account the right of peoples to self-determination, the MP said, “The international community is coming to the understanding that the most important issue in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the right of nations to self-determination. And the most important goal of the Minsk Group is to resolve the issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh.”
